The problem

Hotels cost a lot. Tourist areas can feel a bit hollow. And most people never hear about what can go wrong with house sitting.

You've probably heard you can travel and stay somewhere for free by looking after a home and its pets while the owners are away. It's a good deal when it works out.

We learned most of this the hard way, so you don't have to.

  • 1 Applying to sits that don't actually suit their dates, family or lifestyle
  • 2 Missing warning signs during the homeowner conversation
  • 3 Arriving unprepared for the pet or home handover
  • 4 Misunderstanding what the homeowner actually expected

The course

Learn How to House Sit

Learn How to House Sit is a course for people who want to travel more affordably, stay in a real home instead of a hotel, and look after someone else's house and pets properly while they do it.

It comes from 22 house sits our family of four has done in different countries, plus 23 years working in training and course design. It covers how to find sits that actually suit you, how to write an application that gets noticed, what to check before you say yes, how to handle the pet and home care day to day, and how to leave things in a way that gets you invited back.

By the end, you'll know exactly what to do for your first sit, and you'll have the reviews to show for it.

Why we made this

We've Done 22 of These. Burst Pipes, Missing Cats and All.

Our family of four has completed 22 house sits in different countries, staying anywhere from a week to nine weeks at a time. We've dealt with a burst water pipe in rural France, kept an eye on construction work next door in Belgium, helped out with a home-based business in Ireland, spent an afternoon looking for a cat that had gone missing, and spent two months in France where we became genuine friends with a local château owner and winemaker.

We also spent 23 years working in training, so we know how to turn all of that into lessons you can actually use, not just stories.

House sitting isn't a free holiday. There's real work involved, and we tell you about that too.

Who this is for

Is This You?

  • Families who want more space and lower costs while travelling
  • Couples, retirees and solo travellers with flexible dates
  • Remote workers who want to stay somewhere longer than a week
  • People who like animals and want that company while they travel
  • Anyone who's curious about house sitting but doesn't know where to start

House sitting won't suit everyone, and that's fine. This course will help you work out honestly if it fits your life before you commit to anything.

Questions

A Few Common Questions

Is this course just about TrustedHousesitters?

That's the platform we've used and had the most success with, so it comes up a lot in the course. But what you learn works just as well on other platforms or with a private arrangement.

Do I need to own a home or have pets myself to be a good sitter?

No. You don't need any of that. The course walks you through what to expect, whatever your background.

Is house sitting actually free?

Most sits are unpaid. You look after the home and pets, and in exchange, you get a place to stay. Occasionally, a longer sit might ask for a small contribution toward utilities. We cover this honestly in the course.

When does the course launch?

We're finishing it up now. Waitlist members will hear first, and they're the only ones who get the discount.

What if I join the waitlist and change my mind?

That's completely fine. Joining is free, and you can unsubscribe whenever you like.
